Heidelberg
March 1, 2004

After I fenced in Mannheim, Ben and I stopped in nearby Heidelberg on the way home.

MK

Heidelberg, being nestled in a valley, has fabulous views everywhere. This is the old town with its red, red roofs.

BH

Heidelberg is one of my favorite cities. I've only spent a grand total of about four days here, but it was the first place in Germany I ever saw, and I love the juxtaposition of a historic preserved part of the city and modern liveliness (and all the bike lanes).

The gate to the Alte Brücke (old bridge).

Heidelberg's famous castle.

One outside wall is decorated with a row of lions' heads. Each head is different, and, I imagine, represents a king or knight.

Hotel Zum Ritter
Ritter means "knight" and there are these chocolates in Germany called "Ritter Sport" with all sorts of yummy fillings. Just thought you'd like to know.
