Suomenlinna During our last full day in Finnland, we took a day trip to the group of islands known as Suomenlinna, just off the coast from Helsinki. The island was used as a fortification against attack from the sea and is now on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. It was a very cold, but bright day. We warmed up later with a sauna.
Walking through the ruins of the old fortress.
Another case of a nicely colored house. With surroundings like these, it's not surprsing that Soumenlina is now an art colony.
Apparently someone felt a need to put a wooden seagull (complete with boots) on top of this pole.
View of a church tower on the largest island from a neighboring island.
Scaffolding!
